 Moving Day . . .

Yesterday in preparation for moving the chickens from their paddock to the orchard, I cleaned out their house and Bruce mowed the orchard. We had to wait for them to go to bed, then Bruce sealed their wee door and attached the house to the tractor. When he built the hen house he put it on skids so it is easy to move. However, I was a bit worried when it started to rock around a bit. Bruce as usual had it under control, I'm just a worrier lol.

Thankfully the chickens appeared to be quite settled when their house stopped moving. First thing this morning I opened their door, and they hesitantly came out to explore their new surroundings. Opting to have a wander around rather than eating as they normally would. I think they are going to enjoy their vacation and at the same time eat all the bugs around the fruit trees. Thus giving us healthier trees for next years fruit harvest.

At dusk I went out to check they had settled back in their house, only to find there were two chickens missing. I found the old girl roosting in a tree back in the old paddock, so I scooped her up and carried her back to the house. She is called the old girl because she stopped laying eggs a long time ago and is now seeing out her days in her retirement village. Sadly, I wasn't able to find the missing black one. Hoping that she reappears tomorrow.
