 Wood Turning Course . . .

Today I joined in with the next NAW (National Association of Woodworkers NZ) course being offered by my club. Even though I have just completed the three-year course, I still have so much more to learn. I am hoping that by repeating the course, I will consolidate the knowledge I have already assimilated. Fingers crossed lol.

The goal for today was to make sure we all could find the bevel on our various gauges and to use texturing tools with colour. We turned spinning tops and an eco-friendly seed pot maker. The spinning tops were new to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make them. They will be great to add to my sales table for the craft fair in August.

I have a large texturing tool, but now I am keen to add a small one to my collection. The big one won't be as easy to use on the small spinning tops. Or at least that is what I am telling myself.

When I made the seed pot, we were told that we didn't need to take the spigot off the bottom, so I decorated mine. There is a chuck designed with straight jaws to hold this type of spigot. Thereby enabling us to shape the inside of the pot with ease. The spinning tops were fun to turn and embellish with texture and colour. I was pleased by how well they spun.
